Carl "Gus" Madsen was another St. Catharines, Ontario, product which made that city famous.

He was a fierce competitor and team leader who anchored the defense on the Mann Cup winning teams of 1938 to 1940 and 1941. Nicknamed "Ali Baba" because of his sheik-like appearance and crowd-pleasing play.
